Hi I have had no luck getting Help and Support to work. I
ave tried all of the fixes suggested in various ng's. When
i select H&S, the hour glass comes up for a few seconds
and nothing else happends. Recently other programmes have
been affected (help doesn't work)and i have reinstalled
the help centre several times.

I have just installed SP2 (I downloaded the monster 270mb
at work and burnt it to a cd) with no adverse effects! but
the H&S still doesn't work.
Last night i tried again starting with
WWW.Kellys-Korner-xp.com and applied one of her fixes,
this did have an affect, when clicking on H&S it came up
with a message saying "Windows cannot find 'helpctr.exe'.
Make sure you typed the name correctly, And then try
again. To search for a file, click the start button, and
then click search"

I have checked and the file is there (well more than one
actually) but windows can't find it.

Can anyone give me any further advice?

I would buy another hard drive such as an excellent
Excelstor drive, made in China, with a three-year
warranty, and install XP on it, and then change the boot
order in the BIOS so that the new drive boots.

You can then see if Help & Support works.

If it does, you can swap drives so that the new dive is on
the primary IDE channel and is set as the boot drive in
the BIOS.

You can the format the old drive and use it for back-ups,
master images, clone of the system, etc.

Hi Eric
I don't think i have tried that! I will tonight when let
you know. By the way, i have noticed that hh.exe is
currently blocked in McAfee firewall, but i allowed access
last night and it didn't help so i reblocked it. I've
tried to confirm what it does by still not sure. Any
ideas?

helpctr.exe needs to be in the following folder. If it is not then
your system will not find it.

Windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries
