Help & Support & Search Function on XP not working after unistall of Norton

S

Septima

I had a problem with Norton Systemworks 2003 after I updated it recently and
since this is about the umpteenth problem I have had with norton I decided
to unistall the whole program.

I did what Norton's site had listed for an unistall and the registry edits
and after a reboot my Search Function from the start menu and the help and
support no longer work. The open up but they are blank with no options and
dont load further.

I hope I did not delete a key in the regedit which caused this problem
although I might have. I know how to restore a previous reg in 98 but not in
xp. I have SP1 on this thing. Any suggestions on how to get these working
again?

Thanks

Thanks but this isnt helping and it seems I have other problems besides this
now. It seems that my yahoo messenger i can see text that is typed and I
can't open msn messenger at all it is giving me error messages. Any ideas on
how to get things back to normal?

I went through everything in the link above and now I can't get the help to
open at all which previously it opened up but was blank.

I went to my services as well to make to check as instructed at link above
and advanced mode has a grey square with an icon in it like a file. In
regular mode it shows but the advanced tab is greyed out with the weird
icon.

Help! Please I don't want to reformat.

One option is to try a system restore to right before you uninstalled
Norton. "You can access the System Restore Wizard through the Start
menu. To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, point to All
Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click
System Restore."

Another is to do a repair installation:

Last is a clean install:

Unfortunately sometimes when trying to remove Symantec/Norton products
the best thing to do is a clean install.

Also, then you have to remove several hundred now useless registry entries.
Poor uninstall program for Symantec (Norton) products in my opinion.

See if these commands help, from Start, Run dialog:

regsvr32 jscript
regsvr32 vbscript

If that does not help, type:

helpctr -regserver
regsvr32 itss
regsvr32 hhctrl.ocx
