Help!! SLOW Drop Down Menu and SLOW CURSOR movements

I have this very nagging issue with my PC that is driving me NUTS!!

First off my System is as follows....

XP 2200+ CPU
1052 MB 2700DDR
XP Pro SP1
7200RPM HDs thru-out.
Avant Ver 10 Build 30 Browser also IE 6.0

The cursor acts like it is being drug thru Mud and the Drop down Menu for
the Address bar is frustratin SLOOOOOW!!

I've tried Closing down some Services, Shutting off System Restore,
turning
off odds-n-ends back round Apps.

Also, my System hangs regardless of which Internet Browser I'm using.

It's been like this ON/OFF for the last several months!! Nothing seems to
help!! What's causing my System to HANG like this ???

What are your ongoing arrangements concerning anti-virus, anti-spyware
and firewall?
Why aren't the Windows XP SP2 update and subsequent Critical Updates
installed?

I am having a very similar problem. In fact, I was so fed up that I
eventually formatted and re-installed. Everything was great, I loaded all my
normal programs and still everything was perfect. Got Microsoft Anti-spyware
installed, avast anti-virus...still everything was perfect.

All I wanted after that was the pop up blocker option, which I believe comes
with the XP SP2....so I upgraded and downloaded that and my automatic updates
are on as well, however, ever since I downloaded the sp2, I have started
having the exact some problems as before....

Great, I have the pop up blocker back, but I also have all my previous
frustrations back too. I have disabled the firewall, which is installed with
the SP2, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference. I keep getting
some stupid window (which I have NEVER had before, even before I formated),
where it comes up on the task bar for 2 seconds or so, but does not say
anything on it, and it disappears too quickly to be able to try and open to
find out where it is coming from. I don't like that.

NO....I don't have spyware, I have checked about 10 times today, because of
that silly "programme" popping up on the taskbar all the time and my
anti-virus is up to date....so I was better off without SP2.....

I would also like to have an explanation to my problem.

When I try and shut down the computer, it is so slow, that it does not seem
to be responding, so I have to try and shut it down twice, before I get a
response. I opened a document from my flash drive, to print, and it has
never caused any problems before....it showed that it had found new hardware,
and I tried clicking the balloon, to no avail, I clicked the windows key + e,
to open windows explorer, nothing happened, I then tried again and still
nothing happened. In the mean time the balloon was STILL
showing.....eventually it responded and opened everything I tried to
open....but this is heaps worse than before I formatted my computer....

Any help would be appreciated....and Katmandu...I wouldn't upgrade to SP2,
just yet, if it is causing me the same problem as you....can't be the fix
option for the problem!!!

Let me just add...you can't uninstall SP2 either......
