Drop down menu wont drop down and show history of visited web sites. Ive
cleaned my computer of all know spy, ad, and mail ware. Ive ran every know
virus scan there is bit defrender, panda scan, norton, windows spy ware
bata1, ccleaner, ewido, Adware SE, and microsoft malisious progame removal
tool. I've looked up or googled every process that is running on my computer.
Set and reset every option that IE has conserning the history Files, Ive
deleted cookies cleaned all temp files including all off line content.Still
to my dismay the drop down menu wont drop down. It will flicker like its
going to but wont. If I type in a letter it will drop down and show me sites
that begin with that letter but cklick the down button and it wont. IE
version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

I got it. Ive been working on this for about three days one becuse i dont
like not knowing the other I think it was spy or ad ware that was causeing
it. How i fixed it was by running AD ware SE, CCleaner, Spy bot SD, Microsoft
spy ware bata1, and Bitdefender. All while in safe mode. This how on didnt
fix it the first time had to do it twice plus clear my history and temp
files. I however didnt do this alone TD from Wildersercuritys.com also helped
so even though i cant give you an exact fix this is where you should start. I
should oif checked the browser after every scan to see which prosess fixed it
sorry i didnt do this. If you dont want to go through this you can probly
save a day or two by just reinstall or repaire THANKS

I think you're referring to the TypedURLs list (e.g. shown by pressing F4).
That list is actually an anachronism and doesn't really show you "history
of visited web sites". For one thing it is limited to 25 entries and only
contains things which you have entered in the Address bar and which
resulted in a successful connection. If you hadn't actually opened
any URLs from the Address bar it would be empty regardless of
how many sites you had visited.

If I type in a letter it will drop down and show me sites
that begin with that letter
....

That list is the other's successor, sometimes known as AutoSuggest,
which is activated by checking
AutoComplete for Web addresses
in Options, Content, AutoComplete Settings
and that one *does* show a list of "visited web sites" and more.

As you note it is best to use it by typing something.
You can see some entries without typing anything by pressing
Alt-d,Delete,CursorDown. At first glance it is looks like a list of
everything but it is clearly not. I have never been able to figure
out exactly what that shows. ; )

I wouldn't worry about not being able to use the TypedURLs list.

BTW somebody recently posted a tip about changing the permissions
of the TypedURLs subkey, so if you followed that advice it might explain
your symptom now and if you remembered what that was you could undo it.
