Helen

Hi , I am completely not a techie ,,, hence the reason for my question , I
had a computer that had FP on and was successfull in publishing my site ,,,
great ,, then the new computer that i had did not have FP on , i have
recently purchased this and copied the entire site and loaded back into "my
Webs" , but ,,, it will not seem to publish - it keeps fallling over , the
version is also different as i think the older style did not have the remote
web and local web function on it - i guess i am unclear as to how to publish
the site what steps i need to take and i am also getting error messages "
could not find a web server at hodgsonweb .co.uk on port 21 please check to
make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set
correctly , " If i publish using my old computer its working fine ... dont
really know where to start with transferring this site other than wht i ahve
already tried ,

Helen, I'll try to be as non-technical as possible; how did you publish/copy
your site back to the new computer?

Did you:

1) open the live site and publish it back to the computer by HTTP method in
Frontpage

2) FTP the files back to your computer either using Frontpage's FTP method
or another FTP program such as Cute FTP?

If you had been publishing with Frontpage (using the server extensions) you
need to *publish* your site back to your new computer (as opposed to simply
"copy". That will make sure it brings all the FP type files with it (meta
files and the other folders FP needs).

However as you're having difficulty with publishing to the web server by
HTTP, I suspect that in transferring the files from the server to your
computer you unintentionally corrupted the server ext, which can happen if
they are installed but you use FTP rather than HTTP method of publishing
through Frontpage. That is assuming you are using them in the first place.
That would be one explanation of the "cannot find web on port 21" error and
why you can't log on when trying to publish the site.

Please try these steps in working towards a solution:

1) Firstly, make doubly-sure you're using the correct log-on details.

2) Secondly, check with your host and ask them to run a "health-check" on
the server and FP extensions and reinstall them if necessary. You may be
able to do that through your control panel for your hosting account (e.g.
CPanel), but it will depend if your host still supports the server ext as
Microsoft support for FPSE on Linux servers was withdrawn some time ago).

Let us know how you go.

Sounds like something went wrong when you installed FP on the new computer.
