HELP - Problem w/Access 07 due to conversion

I use an Access database where I work that was created in Access 2000. I
recently updated to Access 2007, and since then I've been having sporadic
problems. After working in and closing the database, I would receive the
following error:

"Windows - Delayed Write Failed Windows was unable to save all the data for
the file... The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure
of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this
file elsewhere."

After receiving this error, I would reopen the database to find that the
main table that the ENTIRE database stems from was GONE. I was able to
retrieve the data through backup systems, but this has happened 3 times since
upgrading to 2007. After determining that I was NOT out of disk space, our
IT Department concluded that this was due to the original database being
created in Access 2000 and currently being used in 2007. They have suggested
that I export the data to Excel and COMPLETELY RECREATE the database in 2007.
The thought of this makes me want to cry as there are 8 years of queries and
reports that will have to be recreated...not to mention the basic structure
of the database. I was hoping that maybe someone may have an easier solution
for me. I'm DESPARATE and open to ANY suggestions at this point!! THANKS!!

Before doing what your IT department suggests, I would recommend that
you first create a new blank 2007 database and import everything from
your current database into the new one.

I can't see why it should be - I have several databases originally created in
2000 that run perfectly in 2007. Sounds like an IT department cop out to me!
