I have purchased Roxio Creator 7 to burn my tapes onto CD's and I have no
problem recording them other then I cannot for some reason adjust my record
volume level. When I download them and play back it sounds like it was
recording in full volume. I have been into all the controls and reset all
levels except the "record volume" and it won't let me move the slide bar to
adjust the volume. I've read EVERY help menu and troubleshooting menu in my
computer. If anyone knows what the problem could be PLEASE help me.

Is the sound distorted because it's too loud?

This page describes, with pictures, how to set things up using Roxio
version 5.0: http://users.bigpond.net.au/lionelsite/exercise_29.htm

If that doesn't help, try searching Roxio support here:
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/index.jhtml

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful- I've never used Roxio for ripping from
cassette. I use the free version of MusicMatch Jukebox for vinyl and
cassette ripping, as described here:
http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,17663,00.asp and here:

Regards,
Ian.

Are you using just the Roxio record adjustments..? Have you tried the
windows controls..? Or both..

Hi Nick
Thanks for answering. Yes I have tried every control that I could possibly
find. Roxie and windows. It will tell you on both of them where to go to
set the controls and how to do it but it won't let me set the record volume
and it's recording FULL volume. If you can imagine someone with hair down to
their waist and standing on end all over their head? Well that would be me!
LOL For over a solid week I have been trying to figure this out. When it is
recording of course I can hear the sound on my stero and on my pc speakers
which sounds fine. When I play the recording back you can tell that it was
recorded in full volume. I'm at wits ends and if you have a solution or
suggestion short of blowing the computer up, I would really be grateful.
Thanks Again

Thank You for answering Ionizer. I will check out those sites again. I have
a ton of tapes I would love to be able to burn. When I am recording it
sounds fine, through my speakers on my stero as well as on my PC speakers.
But when I got to play it back you can tell that it was recorded in Full
Volume. Like when you turn your stero up to load and you know it's way over
the margin that it should be. I can't figure out why it will let me adjust
everything from Volume control to Telephone rings and won't let me adjust the
record volume. Has my head spinning. I appreciate your feed back. If you
can think of anything else I would be willing to give it a try.

Thank You Kindly

Hello Nick
I have a cable hooked into my stero in the output jacks running to the
computer and plugged into the Mic port in my computer. My mixer device is a
VIA AC'97 Enhanced. Don't know if that means anything or not but that's the
only option it gives me. I'm a dummy when it comes to knowing the internal
parts of the computer that makes it click. When something isn't available
for options it's normally grayed out isn't it? My recording volume control
isn't, it just won't let me adjust it. Spent 3 hours going through all the
steps of Roxio yesterday to no avail. It must be something in my Windows is
all I can figure. Again Thanks for your help.

In the dark days when I was using AC'97, I remember a setting in Options to
display Recording Panel. In other words, the recording settings are not
available unless you enable them to be displayed. Options can be accessed
either through Sound Mgt. in Control Panel or from the applet in the Task
Bar.

Good Morning Michael
Thanks for the reply. Still to no avail I have been into the control panel
and checked to enable the record volume and it still will not let me slide
the volume control. It's probably something so simple that it makes it
complicated. Thanks again for your reply.

If you are plugged into the mic port on the pc, then you have to use the mic
slider, their are two of them one for input and one for output. (the windows
ones). Its not the mic slider that first comes up when you dub click the
little speaker at the bottom right. If you can't find it post back.

Dub click the little speaker icon (bottom right) then select options then
properties and put a check in the record options and now select the mic
slider.

Good Morning Nick
Thanks for your patients and support. I have gone into the Mic settings on
both playback and record and they are set as low as I can get them without it
muting them. Should the mic have a check inside the box or the Line in? I've
tried them both so many times now I'm confused myself. On the other
controls in the advanced settings there is a option of 2 boxes the first one
saying
20 db boost and there is a check in that box. The second one is saying mic
2 select. When I check that box then of course I get no sound at all. I
guess I would need 2 mics. Who knows? I'm boggled by now. This was suppose
to be simple. Anymore suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Again

Are you using the preamp out of your stereo....(RCA's).
Do you have a, "line input" on your pc..?

What are you using to capture the video to your pc...?
What is happening is the sound going to your pc from your stereo is to large
of a signal for the mic input of the pc.

Hello Again Nick
Well Yuck...that don't sound good at all. I am using the RCA jack from the
stero to the mic port in the computer. It's the only place on the computer
that it will plug in. The guy that sold me the program also sold me the
cable and told me to hook it into the mic port. The stero has an AUX in &
out. I have it in the out. Other then that it just has a Ext. Speaker and
Video Out. I don't have anything I don't think to capture the video. Since
I was just wanting to download cassett tapes I didn't worry to much about
that. I have the volume turned almost all the way down on the stero.
So...does this mean that I'm just screwed and not going to be able to
transfer the cassetts? Is there anything else that I can do?
Thank You so Kindly for your support.

Ok, I though by tape you was doing vcr tapes, but where your mic plugs in
the computer you should have two other plugs, one for your speakers one for
mic and one for line it. What do you have for the three plugs. We can still
get you going another way if you don't have the line in.

Sorry for the confusion Nick, It would be a blessing if I could actually use
this thing! Okay, The back of the computer looks like this....

0 Speaker Out (My PC Speakers are plugged in here)
0 Line in Port (" ")
0 Mic Connector My Stero is plugged in here.

I have even tried hooking another stero up and to no avail again. It's just
determined to record full volume.

Thank You so Much for you patients and Helpfullness.

What does the line in do when you use it, it has to be enabled to use. That
is what you should be using.

Morning Nick
I've checked the Line in Box and it did the same thing. Should I unplug the
speaker that is connected in that port and plug the stero into it? My
computer has 5 speakers. It has one box speaker and 4 little ones. So the
ports are all used except for the mic. I still don't understand why the
record volume isn't let me slide the control. I don't need to set this
control? This is driving me CRAZY! I so appreciate your help. Thank You

Yes!!! Plug into the *line-in* jack of your sound card, NOT to your mic
jack!!! You've got the RCA left and right cables coming from the back of
your amp or receiver, and you've got them connected to a "Y" adapter which
feeds them into the 1/8' mini-plug, but you've got that 1/8" plug plugged
into the wrong jack, that's all.

Let me know,
Ian.

Hi Nick
Thought you gave up on me. Thank You again for your patients. When enable
the Line In it plays back the same. Just as if it was recording in Full
Volume. Should I unplug one of my speakers that is plugged into the Line In
port in back of the computer and plug the RCA jack into it? It is now
plugged into the Mic Port. That is the only one that was available. Will it
hurt to unplug the PC Speaker? One of them is big speaker and it the other
ones are the 4 little speakers that go with it.
Thanks Again
