Help: P4C800* or P4P800* or P4S800*

I've been looking over the P4C800*, P4P800*, and P4S800* motherboards
by Asus, and after taking note of the board specs, it seems that the
major differences are the chipsets, and the kind of memory they take.

Since I'm building a game machine that is also to be used for video
editing, would there be a *noticeable* difference in performance(all
other factors being equal), or would the difference be small enough
between these boards not to be considered important?

Has anyone here had experience with at least two of the above listed
motherboards?

Stick with the P4P or P4C series which both use Intel Chipsets. Avoid the
VIA and SIS P4 chipsets if at all possible.

Well if you are planning on running Linux, you sure as hell don't want
the P4P800 Deluxe because the VIA 6410 chip is NOT yet fully supported
by Linux and may never be.

I'd recommend the P4C800-E if your running linux, the promise controller
is supported.

For those complaining about VIA not being supported, this is the
manufacturers fault for not releasing specifications.

My SYS P4S800 works better than my P4P800 Dlx. The P4P has BIOS
problems. It occasionally loses it's settings and the battery is new, as is
the MB.

My P4P800 deluxe works fine, no Bios problems, I'm at 1015, may try 1016.
Hasn't lost any settings. SATA &Primary IDE are Intel, the raid connections
are VIA. I have my "Audio only" HD connected to the pri Raid (via) and my Xp
pro os , etc MB main IDe. Works great. I do want to get a SATA for OS,
which will also fee up some IDE connectors

I'm not the one who said to avoid those chipsets. You'll have to ask
DanO.

I'd like to point out that when someone mentions BIOS problems or
instability, it may mean they are over-clocking. Over-clocking is not
on my horizon. What I was looking for are the answers that apply to
mobos run normally.

It's now a toss-up between the board you mentioned and the P4S800D-E Deluxe.
