Help - No icons on windows start up....

Guest

When I turn my computer on, Windows XP Professional loads and then when finished, leaves me with a blank screen. I have no task bar, no 'start' button and no icons whatsoever. The message I get is 'Explorer.exe unable to locate component. Application has failed to start because uxtheme.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem'. Can someone please explain what I need to do? Thanks!

It looks to me like uxtheme.dll points to scumware. Download, install and
update the free app's from the sites below. Then run both of them.

This problem is sort of easy, but can be tricky to solve. What you nee
to do here is replace the UxTheme.dll file with a new one, or one fro
a different xp machine. (To do this, you would type in "uxtheme.dll" i
the search menu of a Windows XP machine, preferably a working one, an
copy that .dll file to the c:\windows\system32 folder. To have a backu
of your old uxtheme.dll, rename it to uxtheme.old

The way I found was easiest, is to wait until after you get the erro
message, click ok.. and then push CTRL+ALT+DEL. Click on Task Manager
and then at the top of windows task manager you will see File, Options
View, and Help. Click on File, New Task (run). This will bring you t
an Open dialog box just as if you would be clicking on start and run
Click the browse button then you will have access to all of your C
from here you can copy a good uxtheme.dll (which I have attatched i
needed) to the c:\windows\system32 directory. Let me know if you hav
any ?'
