Help: Need VPN with MS Chap1 under Vista

B

Bob

Hi,

I recently upgraded to Vista and do now experience that a VPN
connection which worked fine under XP now does not work any more.
Under XP the authentication has the value 'MS CHAP'. So I suppose that
my VPN ist not working under Vista as MS has decided to not include MS
CHAP v1 any more. However I need this VPN connection and the provider
is not able to change the authentication method.

Is there any way to bring vista to use MS CHAP v1? Or can somebody
please reccommend a third-party VPN-Client which supports MS CHAP v1?
Or is the final solution really to reinstall XP?

Many, many thanks for helpful answers,
Regards,
Bob

Hi Bob,

I have already tried each single protocol that's available there (PAP,
CHAP and MS CHAP V2). Unfortunately it's not working as CHAP is as far
as I know not identical to MS CHAP V1 which I need. My credentials are
definitely right and I have no clue why vista is unable to make the
desired connection if it isn't the missing MS CHAP v1. I chose the
setting that vista shall not terminate the connection if no encryption
is made and I also deselected als protocols but IP4. So I think it
must be the missing MS CHAP V1.

Thank you for your answer,
Bob

click the settings tab in the allow these protocols make sure all the
protocls there are selected. also in the data encryption field make sure
optional encryption is selected.
Remember Vista Doesnt support MS-CHap ..

Unfortunately this does not help. Seems like I am really unable to
establish the VPN connection with board equipments under Vista...

Does anybody know a client that is able to establish VPN-Connections
with MS CHAP v1?

Hi Bob,

I have one Soulation for you, you can download Microsoft Virtual PC
2007 free From Microsoft.com, and then Install Windows Xp on it and then
you could use the VPN feature without any problem.

Hope this helps

Cheers !!

That's a good idea. Not a perfect solution but hopefully a good
workaround.

Bob
