Help! My task scheduler has been uninstalled (XP Home SP1)

...or so it says when I try to alter any scheduled task (McAfee Viruscan
e.g.). Any quick tweak or should I system restore?

It says the T. S. is not enabled, when I try to this it says unable find
certain components

"Error 1721 not enough resources to start this service" (Tried through My
Computer/Manage/services & apps/services)
