Help my computers see each other

H

Holy Schmoly

I have a wireless router connected to a cable modem and two computers
connected to that router. One has a wireless connection and one has a
direct RJ45 cable connection.

What I wish to do is have those two computers see each other and be
able to transfer files between each other while of course, having
online connectivity. This is my first time setting up a home network,
so forgive me if my questions seem obvious.

Guess I'm looking to set up a LAN of some sort. Can someone please
point me to some good online tutorial resources for this? I did
google, but most talk about setting up just a wi-fi connection with
just one computer. TIA!

It's pretty simple, Schmoly -- here's all you need to do:

1. Run the Network Setup Wizard on each computer:

XP ICS - Starting the Network Setup Wizard
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp_ics/networksetupwiz.htm

2. If the Wizard finds the router's shared Internet connection, tell
it to use that. Otherwise, tell it that the computer connects to the
Internet through a residential gateway (router). The Wizard will make
all the necessary settings.

3. Right-click and share any desired disks and folders.

4. To see the other computer's shared disks and folders, go to My
Network Places. If they don't appear there, click "Add a network
place" and add them.

5. You can also see the other computers's shared disks and folders by
typing the other computer's name in the Start | Run box in this
format:

\\computer

If you have more questions after that, come on back. :)

I'm trying to do the same thing, but my problem is that the wizard doesn't
run properly on the computer using the wireless connection. The wizard
crashes everytime that it starts to setup everything. The computer that is
physically connected to the router can see both computers, but the one using
wireless can only see itself. is there away to fix the wizard? or a way to
set up without the wizard?
