help me with autodial please

Hi, I just installed aDSL with PPoE (on a XP SP1 pro). I have set it up and
when I open the connection everything works perfectly. What I would like to
do is to set up the machine to connect automatically whenever a program (any
program) tries to access the internet. There are several things I have tried
but none worked consistently.
I have specific questions about certain programs too.

first of all....in the networking panel I have set up the dial up
preferences like this
- I put a check mark on HOME (the current location)
-this is the only location I have
-I've unchecked "always ask me before autodialing"
-I've unchecked "disable autodial when I am logged on"

I have also gone into the services panel and set to automatic "Remote Access
Auto Connection Manager"

Then in Internet Explorer, I set "Never Dial a Connection" (cause I read
this would use the IE autodialer instead of the standard XP autodialer)

Now, if my DSL connection is dropped (i faked it by unplugging its cable for
a minute), first there are several attempts to Redial, but if that fails,
when I plug the cable back in, even if I open IE, outlook, messenger,
etc....nothing reconnects the computer to the dsl line....

What am I doing wrong? I think that what I want is pretty simple...just
connect automatically whenever a program tries to connect.
thanks,

PS.- since we are on the subject I have a couple of extra questions
1) in IE there are three "connection" options
-never dial a connection
-dial whenever a connection is not present
-always dial my defaul connection
being that they are radio buttons, they are mutually exclusive, you
can only have one one at a time.....The second option "dial whenever a
network...." makes perfect sense...if I am not connected and need to
connect, i do that. But whats the deal with the third option "ALWAYS dial
my....." What is the point there? if I am already connected, why would it
connect again?
thanks

I think I figured it out....looks like there is a bug with "set default
connection"
on the connection manager and because of it, autodial cant work since it
doesnt know which service to use.
