HELP!! Lost Email

I got up at 6 this morning & checked my email, everything was fine. When I
checked it again at 10:30, I had lost all my email except what was in my
Inbox and Sent folders. This includes all my subfolders. I was told by a
friend that instead of storing all my emails in C:\Documents and
Settings\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\(bunch of
#s)\Microsoft Outlook Express, which I have never been able to find. I would
think I could open up My Computer, click on C:\, then Documents and Settings,
then user, but there's no folder names Local Settings. Anyway, he said I
could change the store folder to whatever I want so I changed it to My
Documents. When I open My Documents, there are some icons in there that have
Sent, Delete, Newsletters, etc with .dbx extension, of which doesn't open up
to anything. When I select if I want to Internet to search for a suitable
program to open up with, it takes me to MS Visual Foxpro Table. If these
folders are a so-called database, why don't they open up in Access? I am
curious to know that yesterday I received a final message for Norton stating
if I did not activate, it would no longer be in use (or something like that)
I have not activated because it says it has exceeded the # of times it could
be done, but I never got around to calling them. I can't afford to go out and
buy another Norton. Could I have gotten a virus that erased all my email? But
that's not a crucial as to how I can accress all my saved email & if it's
possible to change the .dbx extension on to something else so it will open up?

I recommend you repost your query in an Outlook Express newsgroup.

I am not big on newsgroups, what would be the quickest and best way to do
this? Do I subscribe to a newsgroup by adding newsgroups in my OE account or
is there a way through Microsoft?

First of all, just in case you don't understand, *this* is a
newsgroup. It's microsoft.public.windows.general. You're
accessing it through the web interface, which is the slowest,
clunkiest, most error-prone method there is.

Do I subscribe to a newsgroup by adding newsgroups in my
OE account

That's one way. OE is a newsreader, but there are many other
choices. OE's a good way to get started though. Do yourself a
favor and switch to a newsreader. See

or is there a way through Microsoft?

If you mean "is there a way through a Microsoft web site, yes,
but as I said, that's the worst way to do it.
