Help Logging Into Windows XP

I accidently disconnected power to my laptop during shutdown while and update
was downloading. Now when logging on to XP it immediately logs off. Can and
will someone please help me... URGENT!!! Thanks so much for your anticipated
assistance.

Depending on where in the boot process you got to, it may be worth trying
the Last Known Good Configuration setting.

Reboot, press F8 (I think) to get the safe mode menu and choose LKGC option.

Completely Lost

You may need to boot using the WinXP CD and choose the repair option on the
2nd screen of the install process, NOT on the recovery console screen and do
a repair installation.

Please explain "without success." I've never heard of a repair install not
working unless the hard drive is trashed.

I went through to 39 minute process twice... it says it can't authenticate a
program so it will not complete process. I will attempt it again to see the
"exact" wording. Thanks...
