Help! I don't know what else to do.

What would cause me to be able to access some URLs and not others? On the
ones I can't I get the standard error message "the page cannot be
displayed".

I am running two machines with Windows XP/SP2 and current on all updates. On
one machine I can access the URL and on the other I get the error message.
Both machines are accessing the Internet using a cable modem with a Linksys
router. The Internet and Security Options are all set to the default
options. This occurs using both IE and Firefox browsers. I just finished a
complete Install/Repair of Windows XP and the problem still occurs. I have
also turned off all firewalls and terminated all other running programs. The
URL I am testing with is
http://us.a1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/a/1-/flash/promotions/lowermybills/051223/70iltlC.gif
This is a Yahoo site used for retrieving Gif files for links on their home
page. There are other sites I can't get to also.

At this point I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Check C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc for a file named HOSTS with no
extension. (Not Hosts.sam)
Make sure Windows is set to show hidden files and folders and is NOT set to
hide extensions for known file types.
If HOSTS exists, rename it to HOSTS.OLD
Reboot an try again.

Or, In a Cmd window, enter
ipconfig /flushdns
then clear your TIF also, and re-boot.

Thank you so much Frank. It worked. I also learned a lot about a Host file
and how it is used.
