HELP! Forgot Password on Win XP Pro. How can I do a clean install?

We had only ONE account on our Windows XP Professional.
It kept asking my husband for a new password every 45
days. One day he entered a new one in, and completely
forgot what it was!

We have tried to "hack" it, took it to a computer place
that told us they couldn't help us. The Database said
that we will have to do a Clean Install.

Unfortunately, our Windows XP disk was lost in the move,
so we have to buy a new copy.

So, before we go out and buy it, how do we do a clean
install? Do we just put the CD in the computer and boot
it up? Basically, that is all we can do with it since we
cannot log on.
