Ok, have a problem here. Running Win2k Pro with service pak 4 on my
desktop at home and it's been a while since I last visited Windows Update.
Well tonight I did and the scan found 15 critical updates which I
installed. Problem is when the installations were complete and the
computer went to restart, now Windows will not come up. It boots but I
only get as far as "preparing network connections", then it reboots. I've
tried going into safe mode, same thing. I've tried going into last known
good configuration, same thing. Any way around this to get the system up
so I can get rid of the updates, and how would you go about getting rid of
the updates? Any help/insite greatly appreciated.

How long have you waited with the "preparing network connections" screen
before re-booting? I've seen it take 15-20 minutes. Even though something's
happening, I don't think it's really crashing. I'd wait to see if it will
load, then hopefully get in, check event viewer, and proceed from there.

I don't re-boot the computer, it does it by itself. I have left it
alone and it re-booted 6 times before I gave up, always when it gets to
the "preparing network connections" box. Every time it reboots and I get
to the Win2k splash screen, it starts scanning the disk for errors, so
its not shutting down correctly when it restarts. It does the same thing
in safe mode and last known good configuration. It just won't come up
fully.

Safe mode doesn't work, the same thing happens. I'll try booting off the
CD as you suggest and see what happens. Will keep you posted, thanks.

Update, tried booting to the win2k cdrom, I cannot boot from it. Yes I
did change the BIOS settings to boot from the cdrom but it didn't work.
About all I can do is get to the c: prompt using a win95 startup disk. I
was also able to locate the log files for the updates, so I now know the
numbers of the updates. Any way to uninstall them in dos?
