HELP: explorer.exe eating up CPU

V

VB Programmer

Starting today the process explorer.exe is eating up my CPU (50%+). My
system has been freezing frequently.

I have an awesome, relatively new, Dell XPS Gen 5 running XP MCE (2 gig ram,
500gb hd, etc) I keep it in tip top shape.

Any suggestions how I can troubleshoot this? A few times my computer froze
today.

I didn't really install anything wierd recently.

Thanks.

Explorer.exe should be in your C:\Windows folder and in your
C:\Windows\system32\dllcache folder. The file size should be 1,032,192
bytes. If it is found anywhere else it is likely a virus infection.

See http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/explorer/

Location and size are a clue to its validity.

C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB820291$

Should explorer.exe be in these 2 locations as well??
