HELP - Explorer.exe 99% CPU Usage

I have problem with the Explorer.exe
it usually take 30MB and 0% of the CPU
but
when I go to my directories it goes crazy 99%
the system is very very slow
so what I do is I clike like cazy - oppening several folders
and closing them
after 10-20sec the system has a crash and all the folders close
the EXPLORER.EXE is then back to normal 0%
???????????????????????????????????????

I only have this problem when browsing folders with MP3 Zips AVI etc...
wgeb I play games it is ok


it totally tickes me off

if anyone knows why and how to fix it please help
ps
I have the latest viruse update - and I don't think it is a virus
I have a
AMD-2500, 2x512MB 400Mhz, SATA-RAID 160GIG, 128MB ATI 9600

Also the memory usage is always below 300MB
I would like my system to use more memory insted of the HD
