HELP CAN'T OPEN EXCEL AT ALL!

D

Dee

Hi, I'm having a problem opening Excel... everytime I go
to open it (whether through the desk top or in the Start
Menu) the Windows installer opens and tells me I need a
CD. I don't have this CD nor do I know where to get it.
It started displaying this message after it prompted me
to install updates for Microsoft Office. I even
downloaded the much larger update that didn't require the
CD in hopes it would fix the problem... no such luck.
PLEASE HELP!!!!

You should have a cd that you used to install the software onto your computer.
This is one reason you need to keep it and the lic key in a safe place. If you
do not have it, and do not have access to it, you will need to purchase a copy
of it. You may be able to find it inexpensive on Ebay -- but make sure you get
the disk not just the license

I dont understand why i have to have this CD. The
software came with this computer & was working fine
before I let Windows install these updates that it said I
so deperately needed. :) This is my work computer and my
boss says he doesn't have any CD.

I'm experiencing the same problem. And it was after I
installed the critical OFFICE UPDATES from the Microsoft
website...
I don't have a disc. And now I can't open any excel
files.
Did you manage to find an answer?
I'm desperate!

Any time you do an update (Office) be prepared to have the disk to insert.
Perhaps your boss is using pirated Software? If the software came with the
computer, the disk should be there.

Procrastinating over the availablility of the installation CD's is not
helping resolve this problem. It appears that a number of people are
struggling with the missing cabinet file (SKU112) and it is affecting
different applications. As we have been advised to download critical
updates, and these downloads have caused this problem, would it not be the
easiest and most sensible option for Microsoft to publish the missing file
(or versions) and cure this once and for all. I cannot open excel at all and
I have tried loading the installation cd and cannot locate the missing file
there. Maybe I am just not looking in the right place. Can anyone help with
a solution?

Hi Dee,
Not all systems have CDs many OEM hardware vendors are shipping
their computers with the installation files hidden in a partition on the drive.
Uses up space on your harddrive, but it makes it easier for the OEM to
provide phone support. They sell you a drive and then use up some space.
on it -- you could be in trouble if you repartitioned and reformatted your drive.

Anyway I did a Google Groups search: office update SKU112
and there were 3 hits (there will be more now). The best group
I think for such questions is microsoft.public.officeupdate
the office newsgroups handle a lot more of this type of question than
in the Excel groups. And a search of newsgroups and a web search
usually eliminates the need to post a question.

Take a look at the following -- actually answered by someone from Microsoft
