HELP! Can't hear sounds *now.*

I'd appreicate someone telling me how to solve this: I used to be able to
hear the sounds in any given presentation (.pps) that friends sent me by
e-mail. All of a sudden, I no loger hear them. My computer plays sounds and
CDs just fine, it's just the PPT presentations. I have changed nothing on my
computer or any of the presentations, and no devices are muted. My computer
is a laptop, WinXP home ed. Help! I have no idea what might be going on.
Thanks in advance, and if you can e-mail me a copy of your answer I'd doubly
appreciated it!

Are your friends EMBEDDING the sounds?

To check right click on a sound icon (speaker) in the powerpoint and >edit
sound object - does it say at the bottom "contained in presentation" If
instead you see a path to a file on their computer the sound is LINKED. You
must have the sound in the same folder as the powerpoint.

Hi, thanks for your answer. I doubt that is the case. Like I pointed out, the
presentations had sound and I was able to hear before but I no longer am. The
sound was never on my computer, it was part of the presentation. I can e-mail
you one if you wish. (BTW, these are presentations I can hear on other
computers).

Thanks again! :)

I am guessing that something has altered your PCs media settings. Try
downloading and re-installing Windows Media player to reset everything.
