HDD sata installation and XP Pro

SS

~ßïtzChiçk~

I am trying to install XP PRO onto a new pc and 200G Maxtor hdd
At set up I have tried to install the default windows drivers for SATA but
it comes up with hard drive not found
So i tried to select 'install third party drivers" to install from a floppy
that I had copied the drivers to, from the Asus V8 Deluxe mobo CD. All it
does is bring me back to the option screen for installing third party or
windows default SATA hdd drivers

The BIOS detects my Maxtor drive but Windows XP Pro doesn't seem to
Set up is SATA Maxtor set up as Primary Master and CD ROM/RW set up as a
secondary master

It seems to be a driver issue as XP PRO is not seeing the disk but the BIOS
is but i'm not sure.

What am I NOT doing?

TIA

Sheri

It seems like your are not reading any of the installation and setup
instrauctions, either for XP or Maxtor.

During the XP set, in the first phase you are requested to fress F6 to
install SCSI drivers...so why didn't you do this.

Now go and read up in your manuals and you'll know exactly what is required.

You are not reading my post! I am. What do you think pressing F6 does? It
should bring you to a menu to install "third party drivers"
My Maxtor did not come with any documentation

Well from your post it's blatently obvious that you know know nothing about
it

And *you* you unhelpful, rude and patronising person should read up on
good manners and forget the manuals and study the book "How to make friends
and influence People" You might learn something from it

I truly hope you get an intelligent answer. I've been wrestling with exactly
the same problem to no avail -also with an Asus board. I've googled till I'm
sick of looking and found no answers. It must be that I'm just too stupid to
follow simple instructions becausde this is the third time I've tried to
install a single SATA and failed.
I go for F6, the bios shows the drive. I've copied all the necessary files
to a floppy and unpacked the folder to the A: root and still Win EFFIN XP
can't find the viasys files.

Hi Jb:

A few things that can cause problems.

Flash the system BIOS to the latest version.

Disconnect any internal IDE or external HDDs until the install of
WinXP is complete.

Make sure the boot sequence in system BIOS is:
1) CD ROM
2) SCSI Device or SATA
3) Floppy
4) IDE or C:

Leave the floppy disk in the FDD until the installation of WinXP is
complete.

Happy trails,

Fleabus ..............
