HD and Windows Installation Issue. HELP!!!

I recently purchased a new Seagate 300GB SATA Hard Drive.

My computer consists of:

Processor: Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P4P800 E Deluxe
RAM: (2) Kingston 512MB PC2700 DDR
DVD-RW: Pioneer 8x DVD-RW (primary)
CD-RW: Lite-On 52x CD-RW
Hard Drive: Hitachi 40GB IDE (master), Western Digitial 120GB IDE
(slave).

I installed the new 300GB SATA HD while my computer was functioning as
the (E:) Drive. I wanted to use the 120GB IDE as the primary and 40GB
IDE as storage along with 300GB SATA in any order it didn't matter. I
attempted to install Windows on the 120GB while it was a slave. When
the DOS mode and setup loading was complete it rebooted and froze on
the WIN XP loading screen, with the rolling bar on the bottom freezes
after one cycle. I went back and tried to install Windows with 120GB
installed only and it did the same thing. I tried to reconnect the HD
configured in the original configuration while it was working and was
unsuccessful. I get an error message of something about a HD
configuration or path (will update later this evening) it does not even
get to the Windows XP loading screen.

As I do not in wish to install windows on the 300GB HD is it possible
for me to use the hard drives in the order that I would like or is it
not possible? Why am I unable to install Windows on my 120GB HD?

Thanks in advance to everyone.

Try disconnecting all drives except the one you want to install Windows on
(make it the Master).
(Check jumper setting when only one drive is connected)
If your successful then connect the other PATA drive (as a slave, you may
need to change the jumper on the first drive at this time) and reboot.
If this is successful then connect the SATA drive.

NOTE: Also check the BIOS for the boot order and SATA drive options.
