having problems with secure (https) hyperlinks in Word 2000

I am running Windows XP SP2 with MS Office 2000 and am experiencing problems
with utilizing secure (https) hyperlinks in a Word document. All other
non-secure (http) links work fine. I can reach the https sites from my IE
browser with no problem so I don't think there is a firewall issue. The
error I get is an MS Word error that says:

"Unable to open
https://www.marmc.navy.mil/website/OrganizationalChart/ORG.ppt. A security
problem has occurred."

I had to recently reload MS Office and have experienced this problem since.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I am no expert in this so can't offer any advice, I'm afraid.

I was, however, able to link to this from Word 2003 - but I had to respond
to about four security prompts (compared to just one about an untrusted
certificate via Firefox).

Hi jchesher,

It's an Office 2000 issue that, as I recall, wasn't resolved until later versions of Office.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/271511/en-us?FR=1, but you're also linking to a Powerpoint file from inside of a Word document. Will
everyone who tries to open this link have Powerpoint installed in addition to Word?

=========
Tony, Thanks for the reply. I also can get to the link from everywhere
except Word. >>

Thanks Bob,
Thanks for the link to the knowledge base article. I can't even do the work
around. I continue to be able to reach the https site from the internet but
not from Word. I think that everybody that will use the document I am
working on will have powerpoint but in any case the ppt file is on the web
and I "think" that IE can view a ppt. page. When I bring it up in IE it
doesn't open powerpoint.
