Having problems viewing certain webpages

I am having problems viewing pages at www.amazon.com and was wondering if
anyone has any suggestions. I am using a Windows XP Home edition with
service pack 2 and using Internet Explorer 6. If I type www.amazon.com in
IE the page appears blank. I have disabled firewall and that doesn't make a
difference. Amazon suggested that I make sure that amazon.com isn't listed
as a restricted site under my security options. I checked and I have no
sites restricted. I decided to try adding it to my Trusted Sites list with
the default settings. After trying several different things, I can usually
get the page to display (and some of the links within amazon.com that load
as a blank page) if I do the following.

Go to www.amazon.com and let the page load - it loads as a blank page
Go to Tools/Internet Options/Security which will be on the Trusted Sites
section since amazon is listed as a trusted site
Click on the Sites button and click on www.amazon.com as a site that is
trusted and click OK
Change the security level for trusted sites to medium low and then click on
Default Level, then Apply, then OK
Close my Internet Options window and then click to refresh the page

If I go through these steps, I can usually get the page to load if I click
to refresh. Just trying to refresh the page before going through the steps
in Internet Options/Security doesn't do anything but load the blank page
again

Customer Support from Amazon sent me some links to use to respond to the
suggestions they had already given me and it seems like I have to go through
all of the steps I listed above to have a fairly decent chance of being able
to view the page. I have deleted cookies and deleted my temporary internet
files also (several times in the last few days) and that didn't seem to make
any difference.

Any suggestions on what might be going on?

Thank you for the suggestions. I will try following some of the
suggestions. But I was wondering if the following information might have
something to do with the problem I am having. In IE 6 if I go to
Tools/Internet Options/General tab and then click on the button for settings
for Temporary internet files and then in that window click on View Objects,
I find (using view details setting) a couple of objects that are listed as
damaged.

cpbrkpie Control is listed as damaged and when I looked further under
properties and the dependcy tab it specifies that CPBRKPIE.OCX is damaged

also, another item is listed as damaged which lists a string of letters and
numbers:
{9F1C11AA-197B-4942-BA54-47A8489BB47F} is listed as damaged and under the
dependency tab in properties, it lists C:\Windows\System 32\IUCTL.DLL as
damaged.

I don't know if either of these would have anything to do with certain of my
pages coming up as blank unless I go through the steps I listed in my
original post. I see that there is an option, when right-clicking on these
objects to repair, but I wasn't sure what I should do.

Thank you,
DSS

Hi,
CPBRKPIE.OCX is an adware file and can be removed.
{9F1C11AA-197B-4942-BA54-47A8489BB47F} is from Windows Update. It can be
removed.

Try the other suggestions and it wouldn't hurt to download, update and run
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/

Post back if nothing works. :-o

Thank you so much for your time and help. I have Ad-Aware SE and also
Spybot Search and Destroy and ran those this afternoon and deleted and few
negligible objects and I don't know if that made a difference or not, but
before I ever followed any of the suggestions you had given in your first
response I was able to access www.amazon.com with no problems. So I don't
know exactly what changed, but something happened that seems to have
corrected the problem. I think I will delete the two files that you
responded about. Oh, and I can access Amazon with it deleted from my
trusted sites list now, it is just considered internet zone.

Would you suggest that I follow the instructions from Microsoft on this
website:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679
since of the links that you supplied to me, this seems to have matched the
behavior (blank pages) that I WAS experiencing. I just didn't know if that
would be necessary since I don't seem to be having the problem now. I will
definitely keep the information on hand in case I would need it in the
future.

Thanks again for your help!

Hi,
Glad you got it resolved. Connection/display problems with just 1 site can
be difficult to diagnose. If the problem is gone, there's no reason to try
the fixes in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679
