Having huge problems with Windows Mail

Hi Gary

I have changed Avast and attempted the cmd as you suggested but I get the
following error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk',
Server: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What next?

I have just done this and get the same message. When I put the error code
into google, I get a suggestion to run Reg Cure - could this be an option - I
am concerned as you have to pay for the solution, but you do get a scan.

Do not get Reg Cure. These things are almost always a scam.
Are you running any type of third party firewall or anti-spam
software? Something is blocking the port 110 connection, and
that something is likely residing on your computer.

Hi Gary

I have done that and when I click send/receive I get the following message:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'this is another test',
Account: 'Busymummy.co (rachel)', Server: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

I am going mad with this!!!!

Thanks so much for your help with this

If Avast is not set to scan email and you don't have any anti-spam program
then your problem is with the server. There's nothing more that you can do
on your machine.

Hi Frank

I have uninstalled McAfee - although could not actually find the
uninstaller
on the website - do you have the link.

I am now running Avast which I believe should be fine.

I now get a slightly different error message:
Account: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Server: 'mail.busymummy.co.uk', Protocol:
POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Cannot connect to POP server 209.124.84.34
(209.124.84.34:110), connect error 10060', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC90

Since we have eliminated all the other possibilities, I tend to agree
with Frank's assessment. This is most likely a server problem.

Rachel, do you have another mail provider such as your ISP?
Or you could get a free Gmail account and set it up for POP mail.

it looks like I am not the only one with this problem. what is up
with this?

Did you recently install IE8?

If so, you get bitten by mysterious bug appearing on many systems (not
the majority).

So far it's still unknown why this problem appears.
And there is no remedy except uninstalling IE8.

The problem can be reduced to JPG and TXT files with a workaround:
Right-click on the shortcut that you use to open Windows Mail. Select
Properties. In the field labeled 'Start in' change the entered value to
%UserProfile%. Click OK. Restart Windows Mail and try opening
attachments.
