Hate new Windows Mail

I found Outlook Express so easy to use. All my contacts were viewable on the
left side and all I had to do was double click on a name to write a email.
Now (because auto complete does not work) I have to click Compose, Click To:
double click on the name, close the contacts folder and THEN I can write my
mail. Why make something so much trouble when what I had in XP worked just
fine. I heard somewhere, if it's not broken, don't change it. I always
found Microsoft Outlook more complex. For business it is great but just for
writing email, Outlook Express much easier. I would advise anyone not to
upgrade to Vista just because they would lose Outlook Express

Auto complete works fine. TOOLS menu|OPTIONS|SEND tab. Check it.

I've tried it about 5 times and mine does not work even though I have it
checked to use auto complete. So much easier anyway just to double click on
a person's name.

Auto-complete does begin working after you've sent to that
recipient once already.

I don't know why a couple of extra clicks in WinMail should
cause you to want to dump all of Vista.
It's not an issue for me since 95% of the emails I write are
replies.

Mail, what means that you have to go to the internet to open the mails all
seperate.
You are also not be able to load OutlookExpress 6 to overcome this problem
as it is not supported by Vista. I think my Vista till now is a waist of
money and not word bying.
HTTP was invented by Microsoft and if it is not changing, sorry I will go
back to my old 2000 PRO, what works till now as a shunshine.

Correction, the HTTP protocol was _NOT_ invented by Microsoft.

back to my old 2000 PRO, what works till now as a shunshine.

And I have nothing against 2000 at all myself. As a matter of fact, I have
a Windows 2000 Advanced Server machine sitting right next to a Windows 2003
Server Enterprise machine on my network at home.

It does what you have had previously typed in the To field. You can add a
contacts list to the Side bar. The list will be next to the OE window rather
than in it.

And it is Outlook Express.

I can't figure why Microsoft couldn't have given the option to click View,
Layout, and Contacts (like Outlook Express) in Microsoft Mail. Don't think
it would have cost them anything !!!

It is equally puzzling to me why OE quick "click" to send mail from
quick-listed contacts' list has been left out of the "parent" form, Windows
Mail???any "fix-it" answers would be appreciated

I wish you were right Gary. Auto fil does not work for me even after typing
the names in several times. Typing the first three letters doesn't do it
either. I have to agree that it is a pain to use after using Outlook Express.

It makes financial sense for Microsoft to drive users to either
Outlook or Windows Live Mail Desktop. Windows Mail is not
a money maker for them.

It may indeed be true that the best programmers have gravitated to the
coolest or most profitable programs. But Windows is about infrastructure,
and if part of the infrastructure is seen as sloppy that reflects badly on
the whole infrastructure. As a result people may switch to GMail or
Thunderbird, figuring that Microsoft has lost its way.

A better way to compete is to differentiate - Outlook as integrated, Windows
Live Mail Desktop as device-independent, and Windows Mail as fast.

Windows Mail is fine except for a few irritating things that could be fixed
very easily. Some of the set-up issues such as the spell-check problem
could be addressed immediately in a FAQ and fixed when convenient. Other
issues, such as the broken hyperlinks after pasting into emails should be
fixed with a patch as soon as possible, before too many people are
embarrassed by sending emails with broken links and warn people off
Microsoft products.

These are longer term perspectives, but in the earlier days of Microsoft the
biggest stockholders were working on products and they had a big incentive
to tell someone to fix things such as the broken hyperlink problem because
they had a longer term perspective. Some of the most long-standing
employees would even take on the less glamorous projects, both because they
liked nuts and bolts stuff and because they understood the value of
infrastructure. But those guys are stepping away, and the big challenge for
Microsoft is to keep the perspective that they had and their drive for
excellence.

Yes, I would agree that not being able to send email is a tad irritating. If
I could just send emails, then maybe I wouldn't worry about all the other
cosmetic problems.

Not being able to send email at all is definitely a show-stopper. Since the
vast majority of us do not have that problem, it sounds like you have some
software conflict or file corruption problem. Problems of that sort
typically can be fixed. Good luck.

For me, the most irritating problem is the broken pasted hyperlinks. I'm
assuming this problem is universal (but it would be helpful to hear more
reports one way or the other). The broken hyperlinks are the sort of thing
I can put up with for a month or two.

I would like to know too, I have my old OE folders in my contacts but I can't
send emails with them as they don't show up when I hit TO:

Folders won't show up as they weren't thought about. They know about them
now but that means a long wait till we will see if anything is added.

My auto complete works fine if I have sent an email to a contact within the
past 48 hours. If it has been more then a few days since the last email I
sent that person then I have to select the name manually. It seems to "time
out" after a few days.

The limit is not based on time. It's based on whether you are trying
to autocomplete an address that is one of the last 29 addresses you
sent messages to.
