Your backward logic is pathetic....

So writing new drivers for a new OS is "backward logic is pathetic"?
I know driver developers.. vista should not have been so different from XP
in regaurds to driver use...

Says who?
win2k and xp shared most drivers fine.... but for some reason MS broke
almost everything with vista for no good reason.

MS "broke" almost everything with vista for no good reason? Says who?
After all, it is their OS to develop the way they want right?
vista is a twisted OS, ask some driver delvelopers and they will tell you.

You mean ask the incompetent ones why they can't write good drivers?
Why bother...just fire the stupid as*holes and hire some good driver
writers.
Pretty simple, huh?

Want to be more specific there mr genius and reference exactly what it
is you think I'm lying about?
BTW, I don't recall seeing you in the Vista beta program...did I miss
something? You were there right so you know the beta experience with
Vista and drivers right?
Let us know as we're all waiting with bated breath for your answer!

This just doesn't make a lot of sense. There are very few operating systems,
compared to hardware devices. If an OS had to be designed to support every
hardware device, it would never be completed and even if it was nobody would
be able to afford it.

A ton of new hardware is being released on a daily basis. For one OS to try
and keep up with this, would be impossible. If there were no
standards/guidelines for OS support, just think about the all of the
proprietary drivers would be out there that an OS maker would need to keep
up with?

The supported devices for Vista is currently at 2.2 million and counting.

Everything. Like:

1. your education
2. your looks
3. your ability to attract women
4. your claimed wealth
5. your BS about property you own
6. you trying to fake being an engineer, etc., etc..

Hell man, there isn't anything you've claimed anybody believes.
BTW, I don't recall seeing you in the Vista beta program...did I miss
something? You were there right so you know the beta experience with

Just another one of your endless weak strawman attempts. I never said
I was in the Vista beta program. That you were is more likely just
another of your many pipe dreams.

I have mentioned YEARS ago I was a beta tester for both Microsoft and
IBM. While interesting, not worth my time since the biggest thing you
learn when being a beta tester is your opinion often isn't wanted, the
company you are doing the testing for often doesn't listen and you are
more 'used' then anything else. I will say that IBM was more
professional and receptive in how they ran their beta program.

That's pretty cool. What do I need to configure to get that option?

First you need to install Vista, ok? :)

Next Step for Alias - I see a trip to the deepest jungles of Africa, maybe a
3-6 month Ubuntu marketing extravaganza. Just think, if you did that, we
could go without your stupid Ubuntu remarks.

People have been paying for Windows - Millions of users.

People CAN get Ubuntu for Free - They don't want it.

Need I say more?

You sound more like the little crybaby Justin every day. I wonder what
happened to him.

I have not attempted to install Windows XP.
I guess it would be a good experiment to see how it runs with only the
drivers supplied on a WXP SP2 installation CD.

Paul;
If you have a spare hard drive or can beg or borrow one, that may be a
better option rather than destroying the current configuration.
I have a spare drive for similar experiments.

Didn't they arrest him in the Minneapolis airport a few months ago? :)
I think he was with some Senator, but I could be mistaken...

You can actually get xp drivers for that system if you want.. but not from
hp.
HP don't actually have much control as they don't make the chipsets.. they
don't even make the hardware in the majority of cases.
Most of it is bought in from other vendors and HP just badges the bios and
case.

The HP website lists this motherboard info for my system:
a.. Motherboard manufacturer's name: ECS RC415ST-HM
a.. HP/Compaq name: Alhena5-GL6

The ECS web site does not list that motherboard model number. The nearest
similar model number starts out RC410, which uses the ATI® RADEON XPRESS 200
chipset. HP says my motherboard uses the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 for Intel
Processors chipset.

ATI's web site has a WXP driver:
Catalyst 7.8 Aug. 13, 2007
Display Driver
Catalyst Control Center (English Only)
GART Driver
South Bridge Driver

I really would like help with how I "can actually get xp drivers for that
system if you want.. ", as you put it. Perhaps someone knows of a utility
that can run under Vista which lists all the driver/hardware info to make it
easier for me to search for equivalent WXP drivers.

Open device manager in vista and note down each device (or install sisoft
sandra and print it all).

Google for the manufacturer of each device and download the XP driver (don't
forget the inf files for the chipset).

Backup the Vista (you may want to reinstall it).

Install XP with the drivers you downloaded.

Vista is not an acronym.

You have not used all "flavors" of Linux, since there's literally HUNDREDS
of them out there, and still more coming out. And you have to install a new
OS for each one.
