I can read, but this is still not working. I have done everything more than
once, and still nothing. I am pretty computer illiterate, so please walk me
through this.

download KB941090. Install, save then run the thing and delete stuck items. A
WINNER.

I was at it for 5 or 6 days and finally found out about KB911090. I had to
use the version for the 32-bit version, but it worked!!!

I tried the WMTuil with no success. It only presents File Statistics, Clean
Blank Files, Change and Close. The other options are greyed out I continue
getting One or more messages in your Outbox do not have a valid account
specified. Would you like to use your default account to send these
messages? Yes or NO and no matter which one I select, it wil not clear.
Message could not be displayed
Windows Mail encountered an unexpected problem while displaying this
message. Check your computer for low memory or low disk space and try again.

However, I am using Vista.

You might download and install this newer fix, with Windows Mail not
running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, but also works in other
folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the
64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. If you have an antivirus
program by Norton or McAfee, remember where to find the fix
since you are likely to need it again, although not immediately.

Robinski has mail stuck in OUTBOX. Cannot send mail. Cannot receive it except
through Web. Why is this happening?

Try this newer fix. Download and install it without Windows Mail running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the
64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common antivirus
programs, such as most of those from Norton or McAfee, or a recent
one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, so if you have one of
these, remember where to find the fix since you are likely to need it
again. There may be some messages in your Outbox you will have to
delete after the fix.

I have a note in Outlook that will not send. I get the same error message.
I did download the program WMTuil, but I see no red box. I also do not see
any 'instructions. When I ran the program, it found nothing to clear. I do
know I was able to remove my old mail account with the errorred message in
Outbox, set up a new account, and that allows mail to be sent and received.
Although every time you try to send or receive you will get an error message
"One or more messages in your Outbox do not have a valid account specified.
Would you like to use your default account to send these messages". I say no
and Windows Mail sends and receives. If anyone comes up with a solution,
please let me know.

Is this error part of the new Windows Mail? How many other problems are out
there we don't know about?

WMUtil is an old temporary solution. You may prefer the newer one, which
you should download and install with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first.

To make this a permanent solution, you may need to change your
antivirus program. Most versions of the Norton and McAfee antivirus
programs tend to cause this problem, although not immediately.
A recent version of the Trend antivirus program causes assorted
other problems in Windows Mail.

After uninstalling the Norton or McAfee programs, you need to run a
cleanup program to remove what the uninstall left behind.

<http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105&partner=McAfee&type=TS&ia=1>

You may then need to remove your email account under Windows
Mail, then restart Windows Mail and create the account again.

If this works, you may want a new antivirus program. I recommend
either avast! or AVG, either one with a custom install that tells it
to leave out the part that scans email.

Hi Carole,

This will help show you how to fix the stuck undeletable email message
problem in Windows Mail for all folders.

The KB941090 update will just fix the problem for now. You must stop
the cause to prevent it from happening again. Read the "First" section
in this tutorial about antivirus programs to help prevent this from
happening again, then install the KB941090 Microsoft Update in the
"Second" section to fix the stuck message problem.
