hardrive makes loud noise

Hi,

My hardrive makes a loud noise when I open word, or other programs. For
example, it lets me open illustrator correctly, but when I try to place an
image, the hardrive stalls, it does not respond at all and it makes a loud
noise as if it were to explode any second. Could someone please advice.

That "loud noise as if it were to explode any second" is exactly as you
described -- your drive will fail at any second.
Back up your data immediately, then purchase and install a replacement hard
drive.
