Hard driver Killer?

Hi,

I think this is an interesting question.

If you have a fully operational PC and you cut off the power
immediately without pushing the power button then you risk the chance
to damage the harddrive since the head may stay on the disks.

I just bought a CCTV system which uses the IDE harddrive.

The only power button on the recorder is at the back of it which is
similar to the black binary button located at the back of the PSU of a
PC. Please see the top left corner of

Does it mean I cannot switch off the CCTV system because if I push the
button the HDD will die very soon?

Thanks,
Ken

No because the heads are never ever in contact with the platters in the
first place. They only time there MIGHT be a risk is if you move it.
But then again, my laptop hard drive heads seldom park and it gets
thrown in a bag then thrown in my lorry and chucked about the cab 400
miles a day.

As a Brit I'd like to thank the Americans for their help in the war
against terror because if they'd not funded the IRA for 30 years, we
wouldn't know how to deal with terrorists.

Anyhow, no matter how abruptly you power off the system there is still
time for the harddrives to park the heads.

Noticed one stange thing - when i switchoff in xp the drive spindown is
almost instant. Under linux my drive can take up to 30 seconds to slow down
and finally stop...very odd.
