Hard Drive Installation Problems

Dung Che

I currently have a 30gb hard drive and want to install a
120gb hard drive as a secondary storage device. I
installed the drive as the secondary using master/slave
jumper settings and by cable select settings. When I turn
the computer on it gets to the desktop and then reboots
itself. It will continue to reboot until it turn it off.
When the new drive is disconnected the computer boots
fine. I ran the maxtor powermax software on the drive and
it is free of defects. What can I do?

Is the drive identified in the Bios?
Usually hit DEL as pc boots, during post.
Your Bios is updated?

The jumpers on BOTH the primary drive AND the Secondary drive have to be
properly set. You can't use "Master/Slave" AND "Cable Select" on the
same header. Please locate the jumper information for BOTH drives and
set the jumpers properly. the master will need to be set as Master
(w/Slave if the setting is available) and the secondary jumpered as "Slave".
