Hard Drive does not get an assigned letter????

I have noticed that this question has been asked a few times, but I can't
find a solution that works. I had two hard drives in my computer that
functioned properly before my master drive (C became corrupted and I needed
to format and reinstall the OS (Win XP Home). I saved everything I needed to
my slave drive (D.

I have since reinstalled everything onto my master drive (with the slave
still installed, this may have been a no-no) and now 'My Computer', or
'Explorer' will not recognize the drive nor assign it a drive letter. Disk
Manager sees the drive just fine but will not allow me to change the drive
letter (change drive letter is grayed out). Device manager also recognizes
the drive and both utilities say everything is fine.

Now........originally the master drive had Norton Go Back running, and it
probably left some traces of itself on the secondary drive. Problem is I
cannot remove anything from the secondary drive now because I can't see it.
I did not uninstall Go Back before I formatted the master drive because I did
not realize that it was a problem and I have not reinstalled Go Back on my
reformatted master drive. The main drive is a Maxtor PATA 40GB drive and the
slave drive is a Western Digital PATA 40GB drive

Are there any solutions I haven't seen??

What does Disk Management show for the status/properties of this drive?

Status is Healthy (Active) and Properties says: This device is working
properly.

I have also shut down, removed the IDE cable and power to the slave drive
and booted up the master drive alone. Shut down again, re-attached IDE cable
and power and rebooted and their was no change.

I then decided to boot up the slave drive by itself and sure enough I saw
the Norton GoBack screen. I hit space bar so that I could enter the options
to disable GoBack and the screen goes into a DOS screen telling me there is a
GoBack error and to press any key to reboot. This process repeats itself.

Thank you Norton for just a wonderful product.

Goback moves the partition table information, and replaces it with a single
proprietary partition type spanning the whole drive. Goback's MBR boot code
is needed to run in order to access the "monitored" partititons once it has
been installed..

Either reinstall GoBack or follow the instructions in the following link to
unhook Goback.

Personally, I would dump Goback and put a drive imaging/cloning strategy
in place.

YOU RULE!!!! Finally I am able to read this stupid drive. GoBack was
removed and everything functioned perfectly. What a horrible program!!!!
