Hard drive continues to run every minute

I Own Dell Dimension 8300.

Recently my hard drive continues to run and run and run. I've gone through
all of the diagnosis procedures and nothing shows up as a problem using the
XP tools.

Then when rebooting bios, I pressed the f12 key and ran a diagnosis through
that pathway and the following message came up during the "IDE READ TEST":

0F00: 0244 message block 102984013 through 102984044: uncorrectable data
error or media is write protected.

0F00: 1A44....same error message as above.

When I try to surf of even typing this message the computer will momentarily
freeze while the hard drive runs with a clickty clickty sound different than
the sound made during bootup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

As the test tells you, you have an issue with your hard drive. Open a
command prompt window. Type in chkdsk c: /r, where c: is the drive you have
Windows installed upon. You will be told that the system can't lock the
partition for testing. Do you want to repair on the next reboot? Type in a Y
and enter.

Then exit the command prompt window. Reboot and allow the test to run.
