hangs during logon

When I start my Win 2000 Professional machine the boot is
normal untilI logon. After entering my id and password the
systems hangs. The mouse and keyboard are not locked up
though. There seems to be no further disk activity from
this point, allthough untill logon there is disk
activity. Any help or thoughts?

Can you logon in 'Safe Mode'?

To get into Safe Mode, reboot the system and press the F8 key when Windows
starts to boot.
