hang during clean installation of xp

Trying to do a clean installation of the xp but facing the hangging problem.
Sometimes after pressing F8, it hang. Restart and it may hang say when you
try to delete the old partition. Other times, it will hang when you try to
press "enter' to install the windows in the selected partition. Any idea what
hardware issue could that be? Any experiences these problems and would like
to share your solutions. Thanks

There reallly is no way for people who can't see your computer to give
you a definite answer about which hardware component is the problem,
particularly because you didn't tell us anything about your machine.

Assuming this is a desktop, remove all external devices except for mouse
and keyboard. Remove all internal cards except for the video card. Test
your RAM and hard drive. Here are general hardware troubleshooting steps:

Standard caveat: Testing hardware failures often involves swapping out
suspected parts with known-good parts. If you can't do the testing
yourself and/or are uncomfortable opening your computer, take the
machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigStoreUSA).
