guide for setting up peer-to-peer?

Hello,

My husband and I had our 2 identical Dell computers
(Dimension 4100) connected by one wire, on a peer-to-peer
network. He had several folders on his hard drive that
are set to be shared. I would access those folders
through my own computer.

The other day, I installed more memory on each of our
computers (mine is now 512Meg and his is now 256Meg). I
also replaced my old hard drive, and I reinstalled windows
2000 pro. Of course, our network setup is now gone, and I
can't access his computer anymore.

I tried to fix this, by following tasks 1, 2, 3, and 4 on
this web page: http://www.tek-
tips.com/gfaqs.cfm/lev2/3/lev3/19/pid/96/fid/3758

Afterwards, I was able to see his computer in "My Network
Places." Then, I uninstalled the NETBEUI Protocol as they
suggested in task 4. Now, I can NOT see his computer
in "My Network Places."

BTW, nothing has been changed on his computer -- just
changes on my computer. Also, there are no changes in our
peripherals or any other hardware.

Any ideas, please?

Or, does anyone know of an easy-to-understand guide for
setting up a windows 2000 professional peer-to-peer
network?

Changing memory should not have changed your network settings, but you
might just try reinstalling netbeui even though it is not supported by
the newer versions of windows and see what happens. Also, try
installing ipx and see what happens. I am far from a network expert
though so don't quote me. Oh, one more thing, shut down any firewalls
that you might have active and see what happens.
