GTA Vice City Freezes

Guest

Hello all,
I have a question! I bought the game GTA Vice City a couple of days ago but there is a problem.
It's very weird, when I am in-game everything is fine but as soon when I press the Escape button
the screen turns black, the sounds keeps playing but I can somethimes get out with Control ALt Delete.
Same storie when I am trying to save a game. I already did some search work and installed the game twice,
I reinstalled direct X9 and tried different drivers for my Ati Radeon Pro 9600 card. I also downloaded the 1.1 patch
I looked in my "error files" or how you call it and the error message shows: Damaged block in machine\Device\CdRom1.
I don't know if I translated it into right English but I hope you will understand.
Can someone help me out?

Hi Arjen,

When you installed the game, was there an option for a
full or partial install? If there was, reinstall it and choose
the FULL install option. I would also test the game on
another computer to determine if either the CD or CD
CD ROM drive has a defect causing these issues.

Hi arjen,

The error message in your other post seems more likely
to be the cause of your problems, as it could be the
cause of this error message as well. See my other reply. :)

Thanks for your quick reply,
I already reinstalled the game once. I think I did if already at full-option,
but I'll do it again.
When I reinstall my save games will not be deleted, it saved them automaticly
in the my documents section. Is this normal?

Hi Arjen,

Yes, it's normal. :)
Copy that folder if you want to backup your saved games.

Here's how to properly install or reinstall a game (and/or patch):

1. Backup any saved games and/or mods to a safe location.
Save games are often found in My Documents\My Games.

2. Uninstall the game using Control Panel / Add-Remove programs.
* Manually delete the game folder if Add-Remove doesn't work.

3. Clear any references to the game leftover in your registry using this
Registry Cleaner: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

4. Click My Computer / Rightclick the Drive & Choose Properties
/ Run the "Disk Cleanup..." / Next Click the "Tools" Tab and run
the "Error-Checking" and "Defragmentation" utilities.

5. After a reboot close & exit your Antivirus and any other programs
using this method: http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=331796

6. Install the game again from your original CD, do not use a backup.
FULL install <<<

7. Don't reuse the saved games/mods until you properly test the game.
