GTA Vice City and Radeon 9800 Pro

Are there any issues with GTA Vice City and Radeon 9800 Pro?

I had my Radeon Pro 9700 replaced by a 9800 Pro under warranty. Now
Vice City won't load. I get an hourglass for a couple of secs and
that's it. It also loaded with the Geforce 3 card that I used in the
interim. All drivers uninstalled before card swaps.

Catalyst 4.2 drivers, Windows XP Pro SP1 (all patches applied), A7N8X
Deluxe rev 2, Athlon XP 3200+ and 1Gb ram.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Guy

Nope, no issues. You sure you got rid of all the Nvidia crap? Run
DXDIAG and make sure AGP Texture Acceleration is enabled.

Why would he have any Nvidia drivers? He said he had a 9700. I would un
install and the re install the game. Some games get messed up when you
switch cards on them. JLC

I had the same problem when I upgraded my GF3 to a 9800. All I did was
rename the settings file(gta_vc.set) but you'll have to redo all your
settings.

I would have Nvidia drivers to drive the Geforce 3 that I said I used
in the interim.

Game uninstalled and reinstalled with no change.

I'll give it a go, but I uninstalled GTA-VC and then reinstalled.

Cheers,

Did you use Detonator Destroyer or Nasty File Remover when you
uninstalled the Nvidia drivers? I'm still thinking this is caused by
some Nvidia registry entries left behind.

The file in question (gta_vc.set) is in the gta folder in 'my documents and
settings' and isnt removed during the game uninstall. There are also the
saved games there.

You could be right. GTA-VC runs okay when installed on my other Win XP
partition.

I did not use any of the utils that you mentioned but I have just had
a good trawl though the registry here and deleted all Geforce
references.

Will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the head up! I keep on forgetting to look there - I've been
caught out before. BTW, the 'uninstaller' leaves 100's of Mb behind.

Ya know what I had lately, that when I started Vice City up to game a
bit, it loaded the settings from the ALL USERS folder... It took a
reset of the pc to get it to accept the settings and savegames from my
own profile!

But it games lovely on ati cards... with 6x anti aliasing and 16x
aniso!

Went from GF4Ti to 9800Pro... no problems.

CAT 3.10 (Dont see a reason to "upgrade") WinXP - A7N8X Deluxe = Rev
3? (Its the 3-4th different A7n8x ive worked on) AMD XP2500 / 512mb
