Group Policy ADM templates

Ron Whitling

Hello all,

I am having problems with adding the new ADM files for
controlling xp in Group Policy

I have followed
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/MngWinXP.asp

& have had no luck. I eventually copied them straight from
an XP workstation
C:\Windows\INF
to a 2k Domain controller
C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\domain.com\Policies\{unique name}
\Adm

& the changes took place on that domain controller, until
FRS forced replication. Everything went back to the
original files after that.

Note: I can not get the files to take place at all on the
holder of the FSMO roles, they only take effect on a DC
that is not holding these roles, but then go back after
replication.

Any Ideas?

Thanks much!

I seem to remember that there's an issue with the files from Windows 2000
SP4 being newer than the ones for Windows XP SP1 and therefore taking
precedence (even though the XP policies are supposed to be a superset of the
Windows 2000 policies). This is a weakness in using file dates to determine
which templates to use.

I don't have XP clients, so I haven't experienced this in person.

Regards

Oli
