adm files for XP not working.

R

Ron Whitling

I have tried updating to the latest adm files to control
xp from a 2k AD server listed here

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?
url=/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/MngWinXP.asp

I am now having trouble that my PDC will not take these
changes.

I eventually got the new adm files to take hold, untill
replication of sysvol reverted everything back.

I had to copy the XP adm files from a workstation
C:\windows\inf

to the domain controller
C:\WINNT\SYSVOL\sysvol\mydomain.com\Policies\{unique name}
\Adm

the normal add/remove templates would not take hold.

Even thios workaround would only work on a DC holding no
FSMO roles & would be overwritten when sysvol was
replicated the next time around.

Any advice would be helpfull

Feel free to email.

Thanks

Try following the steps in this article:

307900 Upgrading Windows 2000 Group Policy for Windows XP

There is a problem after applying SP4. After you apply Windows 2000
Service Pack 4 (SP4), the Group Policy security templates are
restored to the Windows 2000 default security settings.
