Group opinions on 17in Flatscreen monitors please?

I am thinking of buying a 17in flatscreen monitor to replace my 19in
CRT.
Somewhere in the 200UKP range (and no more than 250UKP at the absolute
max) is where I am aiming.
The most important thing is it must be decent for gaming, so
reasonable refresh rate, contrast etc.
Can I get the groups opinions/experiences etc.?

Benq do alot of good monitors around that area

i believe the one to look for is the F71g9 (if i'm wrong, i'm sure i'll
be corrected)

either way check out a good site like toms hardware or andantech, which put
these thing though their paces

ebuyer is good for actually getting them, as a whole section devoted to sub
16ms monitors, care though cause they tend not to be the best at match
pictures and products, so often times you might see a display which has a
good spec but is ugly physically, just check the manufactures site to be
sure.

i just found a bit of paper where i had worked out roughly what response
times mean in terms of fps

8ms = 120 fps
16ms= 60 fps
25 ms= 40fps

i worked those out by
1ms =0.001s
therefore fps divided by 1000 = number of frames per ms
fpm=

can't remember the rest lol, but it was right when i worked it out

always bear in mind that the human eye can detect changes faster than about
50 fps, so 16ms should do just fine

for good gaming, the spec most relevant is response time. anything sub 20ms
should do fine - some displays are as fast as 8-10ms. i've been using an
iiyama as4314ut[16ms] for getting on 2 years and love it. iiyama aftercare
is also excellent. i'll definitely consider another for my next pc although
i've read good things about phillips flatties lately, especially with regard
to gaming. both the current iiyama and phillips models come in at under 200
quid including delivery in many uk online stores
the only slight downside is ensuring you have enough video power as you'll
always want to use the native reolution - usually 1280x1024@75hz. while they
can display other modes they are vastly inferior to the native res.

Thanks for that info, I was thinking of getting a 16ms monitor anyway.
I looked at the Dell 19in flatscreens as well, but the E193FP gets
slated in quite a few reviews, and the 1905FP is only 20ms.
