Grissoft AVG Free D/l and Problem

I got the Grissoft Free Anti-Virus package and installed it fine on my
windows XP Pro platform. All seems to work well including automatic updates.

What I DO notice all day to-day is that in the taskbar (?), the one at the
bottom, the AVG E-mail scanner comes on every minute or so. I did never see
that before.

It also says that it is connecting to 213.234. etc etc.

I ran a total Virus check and all is fine.

I also ran a virus check with NOD32 and again all is fine.

The only thing I have done to-day is switch from Outlook Express to Outlook.
That was also OK and I can receive and send there.

Is there somewhere a Timer that says to constantly check E-mail, even if
none is there?

Look in Outlook's account settings for "check for messages every____"

I went back to Outlook but cannot find what you suggest.

I knew where I had sets it in Outlook Express, but cannot find it under
Accounts and Properties.

Can you please help by being specific? I am totally new to Outlook at this
time.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply. I found it now and it was set to 5 Minutes. I
have changed that to 15 Minutes.

But I must say, the AVG e-nail checker came one before I would say, every 40
seconds!

But I appreciate the detailed response. Thanks

I used to use AVG but changed to Avast some time ago.
You may want to try it.I think it is better at stopping malware than AVG.

This seems to be a common problem with the new free AVG7. The Grisoft
forum is full of people complaining about it, but so far no proper
solutions. I gather that AVG is trying to send something through your ISP's
mail server, but there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing what it is, or
any sign that it ever manages to do it. I'm using Windows XP-Home with SP2.
I put up with this for a few days, but as it insists on connecting my ADSL
to the internet without warning I have finally uninstalled it. Hopefully,
Grisoft will come up with a fix- meanwhile I've switched to a different
checker.
