Grisoft AVG autoupdate fails to connect

I recently installed Grisoft AVG [ver 6/free]. It works ok. I like it.
Only problem is that autoupdate cannot connect. I make sure
that I have an internet connection before hitting the "update"
button. I get no response from the firewall as usual with a new
connection. The message comes back, "unable to automatically
connect" Also, I have tried turning the firewall [Sygate] off 1st.
When I download the update manually and restart, everything
works fine. Does anyone know why this happens? Without this,
I have to remember to do a manual update every couple of days.

I have the same program, and the same problem. As a rule, the autoupdate
does not work. It has on rare occasions, but, I usually have to either get
the updates from the web, or tell it to check for updates. Even then, it
may not download the updates from the Control Center, and I have to go to
the web and download them to the hard drive and then manually install them.
I use Zone Alarm (the free one) and I have no problems with any installs. I
have tried to get an answer to this problem, but, so far nothing. I've
looked at the Help, which is not that great for the free issue. I am
thinking that, if you choose to stay with the free version, you are getting
what ya got, and that's it. The paid for version may operate properly.

I just set a reminder for me every few days to update, or more often if
there is a rash of new gunk. As long as I get the updates regularly, I can
live without the auto part.

Sorry I don't have more positive information, or an answer to solve the
problem, just want to let you now that it is a problem some others of us who
use the AVG 6 also have. I have seen several other posts here from folks
who also have the problem, so if you do luck into a way to resolve it
elsewhere, please post it here for those of use who would truly appreciate
the information.

Thank you, and good luck!
Jan :)

I had a similar problem with v6 (free). I decided to try the trial version 7
and auto updates worked fine. I've since bought version 7 (pro) and the auto
updates work no problem.

From your post, it would seem that you are on Dial-up. I have a 1mb
Broadband connection, which might make a difference?
