Grayed out attachments

For about a week, any emails I receive that have attachments of .jpg, .gif,
..bmp are grayed out and I can't download them. When I click on the paper clip
icon, I can see the names and sizes of the attachments, but not download them.

I seem to have had this problem before, over a year ago. There was a
workaround or a fix, but I don't remember what it was.

Make sure attachments are enabled:
Tools, Options, Security, uncheck "Block images..." and also uncheck
"Do not allow attachments..."

Also, go to Tools, Options, Read, and uncheck "Read all
messages in plain text".

If all that checks out, which antivirus are you running? Some of them
cause problems with Windows Mail over time.
