GPRS disconnect )-:

O

Ofer B.

Hi all,

I using i-mate device for replication against SQL server.
When I synchronize for the first time, it take 15 - 30 minutes.
during this time the i-mate disconnect the GPRS connection, even the
synchronization didn't finish.

How can I prevent the device to disconnect the GPRS connection during a long
replication.

Thanks,
Ofer

Ofer,

As far as I know, the GPRS connection should not get dropped unless either:

a) The device powers off,
b) The user hangs it up,
c) You explicitly close the RAS connection that opened the GPRS connection,
d) The GPRS network hangs up on you.

If the cause is not a,b or c, then I think you are in trouble, because you
are simply being limited by the reliability of the connection. In poor
signal areas we have poor connection quality, and also in areas where we
have great reception, we will still get thrown off randomly, which I
attribute to times when the network is busy.

If it is due to a power off, then I saw some posts on here a while ago
twhere someone was cleverly using a timer to keep waking up the device
somehow and stopping it from powering off. I can't recall the details, but
I think it was last week sometime. For our own use, we just disable the
auto-poweroff, which I know is a cop out, but hey, it works!

I hope this helps you,

Richard.
