gpedit.msc error

I can't get gpedit.msc to load. I keep getting an error
that says "snap-in failed to initialize. Name: Group
Policy. CLSID:{8FC0B734-A0E1-11D1-A7D3-0000F87571E3}".

I've gone into MMC and tried to add it but the same error
happens when I click to add. I've removed this key from
the registry using regedit but still nothing and then
tried to readd it. I've looked on the knowledge base but
it doesn't have any information. Any ideas from anyone
please.
