Got a Virus, Control Panel gone

I picked up a Trojan Virus, so all my data is gone and my control panel
is gone among other things. So my friend had the same thing happen and
he told me I needed to get into Control Panel and change the view to get
things to go back, however he doesn't know how I can get into Control
Panel since he cant be here to look at my computer. So, how can I get
into Control Panel without access to my Start Menu???

I don't know what has happened to prevent access to Control Panel on
your PC. Consequently, these suggestions may, or may not work.
however, they should do no harm to your computer.

Suggestion 1:
Click on the Start button.

If you can see "My Computer" on the right hand side of the menu, double
click on My Computer. Is Control Panel mentioned on the resulting
window? If so, double click on Control Panel.

Suggestion 2:
Otherwise, click on the Start button, followed by "Run". Type
"explorer.exe C:\" (without the inverted commas), followed by OK.

This should open a new window for Windows Explorer. If the folder list
is not visible on the left hand side, click on the yellow Folders icon
(below the top of the window) and look down the list of folders.

Hopefully, the list will include Control Panel (below the last drive
letter). If so, double click on Control Panel.

Suggestion 3:
If Control Panel has disappeared completely from the Start Menu, My
Computer and Windows Explorer, you may still be able to access
individual components.

To do so, click on the Start button, followed by "Search". Search for
*.cpl (include hidden and system files in your search). You will
probably find these files in the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Each cpl file corresponds to a different Control Panel option. For
instance, appwiz.cpl will open the add/remove programs menu. You can
double click on each cpl file name to open the relevant menu.

Hey guys, actually the first suggestion did work somewhat, I just wasnt
paying close enough attention at first.
I changed the view to classic view and I got most of my files back and
my icons and taskbar dont disappear anymore. Control Panel is still
gone, so I cant do a system restore. I got all the viruses off my PC
and now I just need to find some way to do a system restore, Ive
searched for control panel and system restore and it brings back
nothing. Oh also my C drive doesnt show up in My Computer, but I know
its there because I saw it listed in another file. So any help would
be great.

Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop to get System
Restore. However, take care not to select a restore point containing the
virus.

Hope this helps.
