[Google Mail]

Denise Allen

I am still having problems with my Google Mail folder. I have synchronised
all the folders under imap.googlemail.com and downloads have been
successful. However I still receive the following error message:

Header download for the '[Google Mail]' folder did not complete. Could not
select '[Google Mail]' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your
folder list to synchronize with the IMAP server. Account:
'imap.googlemail.com', Server: 'imap.googlemail.com', Protocol: IMAP, Server
Response: 'Unknown Mailbox: [Google Mail] (Failure)', Port: 993,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCCD2

I would really like your input. However I can just ignore the message as my
Windows Mail is working well.

First of all, there is nothing wrong with your basic settings, so don't
change them. Your issue is strictly an IMAP configuration problem.
Secondly, I am not an IMAP expert, so I'm just throwing out a
suggestion:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select the googlemail account, Properties,
IMAP tab, under Root Folder enter [Google Mail].
Give that a try.

To follow up, if my last suggestion does not work, there is a rather
elaborate procedure given here:

I tried your suggestion and entered [Google Mail] under Root Folder.
Received the same error message as before. Then, because I couldn't send
you an email, I removed it as I didn't know if that was the reason the email
download just stuck.

I have since had to re-download and everything was successful EXCEPT I got
the usual message - and my email to you wouldn't go again.

Got the following 2 messages:

Header download for the '[Google Mail]' folder did not complete. Could not
select '[Google Mail]' on the IMAP server. You might try refreshing your
folder list to synchronize with the IMAP server. Account:
'imap.googlemail.com', Server: 'imap.googlemail.com', Protocol: IMAP, Server
Response: 'Unknown Mailbox: [Google Mail] (Failure)', Port: 993,
Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCCD2

2nd message did not copy, but to do with failure to send your email. Will
forward it to you, if this email goes.

You referred to "email" several times. This forum (newsgroup) does
not work with email. It works with newsgroup posts, which is a different
communications medium.

As I said before, I am not an IMAP expert. Have you tried the settings
in that other link I gave you?

I do realise this is an old post but i dont see that anybody managed to
resolve the problem.

I had the same problem here is what i did:

The list of imap folders will have the "[Google Mail]" folder below the
"Junk E-mail" folder.

Simply right click on the "[Google Mail]" folder and hover over
"Synchronization Settings", from the pop out menu select "Don't
Synchronize".

No more error message for me and everything else works ok.
